Can I make a pie in a glass dish?
My BF told me he had pie pans. I've searched the entire kitchen, and I give up! I have 3 clear-glass casserole dishes. Two of them are 8x8 inches, and I think the other is 9X12 (it doesn't say on the bottom). Will my pie/s turn out just as good this way? I wanted to make two pies, so should I use the one big on or the two small ones? Also, do I need to grease the bottom (the crust will have tons of Crisco in it). Thanks to everyone in advance!

- Yes... you can use glass bakeware to make pies. I have glass pie pans and I've also made pies (fruit and pot pies) in 8 x 8 and 9 x 13 pyrex dishes. They all turned out fine. No need to grease the bottom. I found that greasing the bottom and baking a blank shell causes more shrinkage in the pie shell. A clean, ungreased glass dish will have enough friction to minimize shrinking (little sliding between the glass and crust), but still allow the pie to serve up without the crust sticking. Also, as you mentioned, the crisco will bake out and self-lubricate the glass dish.
- I always make my pie in a glass pie dish - spray with Pam. Use the small one.
- Yes you can make a pie in a glass dish
- Yes you can bake your pie in a glass dish. They may not turn otu exactly the same though. Mostly cobblers are made in casserole dishes. You may want to reduce your cooking time, or just check your pie a little more often to make sure it doesn't burn. The glass tends to distribute heat a bit differently and so you may burn a bit quicker.
- 1 big one
- sure can.
- yup, use the small one
- Sure can. Heck, I had to make one in an old iron skillet once and liked it so much I still use a skillet. Just make sure to check sooner rather than later. Glass is a great conductor of heat and will cook it faster.
- yes just turn it down 25 degree's and no need to grease it has plenty cut slits in top for oozing and can also put a cookie sheet on bottom rack for spill's and you pick the pan i would use 1 big pan
