What interesting pies (or desserts) other than apple pie would you recommend for a Thanksgiving feast?
I mean, I don't have anything against apple pie, but that's literally the only dessert we've been eating for Thanksgiving since I could remember. Anyway, what are some good pies or other desserts that you would or do eat for Thanksgiving? Thanks!

- Pumpkin pie, of course.
- We make pumpkin pie (obviously) and pecan pie. I'm not much of a pie person, but my grandmother-in-law makes a mean pecan pie! And I recently tried Edy's Pumpkin Pie ice cream and it's AMAZING. It tastes just like pumpkin pie w/ whipped cream. Not too rich, not too sweet.
- we always make a choclate pie easy easy to make just buy oreo crust from the store fill it with chocolate pudding top with whip cream and chocolate shavings then freeze it...sooo good!
- sweet potato, maple syrup with pecans pie. i found the recipe in a martha stewart magazine years ago and it is always a huge hit!
- This is an old family favorite that was passed down from my great aunt years ago. My guess is we all love it since all the food is so heavy and hot, and this is cool and fluffy. In a large bowl, combine 1 package of pistachio pudding mix with a 15 oz. can of crushed pineapple, slightly drained. Wait 10 minutes. Fold in a tub of Cool Whip. Pour into a graham crust and refrigerate for at least 6 hours.
- Whatever happened to good old pumpkin pie or sweetpotato pie. Yum. Mom always makes the sweetpotato pie. And another big hit is the four layer dessert.
- A fruti salad with pie crust crumble on top- use real pineapple, sauteed apple and pear, and put into a bowll with brown sugar and a squueze of lemon juice. Meawhile bake a cinammon crust using flakey pastry and nutmeg.- brush the pastry in sheeta on a baking tray for 20 minutes til it fluffs, up, be sure to brush each layer with butter before laying each layer down. When cooked and the borwned sugar on the fruit is caramelised. Break the crust onto squares and lay on top of the fruit. Thats' your pudding. Serve iwth some vanilla whipped cream. I am not big on stodgy pies after a meal- fruit is much nicer. Otherwise a fruit compote is lovely. Shop apples, pears and dates in a pan and add a half cup of water and whole lemon juice. Simmer til they soften a lot but are still pieces of fruit, add nutmegg and cinammon. Swirl a dollop of thick cream through the fruit, but only to make a pattern, and serve in small bowls. This is something else as a really good pudding- it's so creamy, but you can use yoghurt if you don't want fat from the cream ( and if you use cream it HAS to be thick heavy cream, not cool whip junk). Add fresh baked graham crackers to the top if you MUSt have pastry but honestly, this pudding is amazing - the dates with lemon, never fails. Grill pineapple and grapefruit slices under the broiler- add brown sugar, and cinammon, and turn over when they are done on one side. Adding a touch of butter crisps them, When they are caramelized, serve with a drop of whipped cream. If you musts have pie - use the same sliced pineapple or a halved pear, cover one side entirely in pastry and coat the face of the fruit with brown sugar. Place the fruit face down on a baking tray that is greased, and so the pastry is the only expposed part ( if you are having 6 people for dinner, use 6 pear halves etc), Bake this tray of min fruit tarte tatins, in a hot oven for 12 minutes, or until the pastry is browned. The caramel will be sticky, so loosen with a drop of brandy and a spatula, or add a drop of boiled water to loosen, Flip the over and add powdered sugar. Serve face up with a dollop of rreal fresh whipped cream. Sprinkle slices toasted almonds in top of the fruit. To me ,eating a stodgy pie after ameal of meat veg and all the stuffings, is so gross, and overdone.
- Pecan pie is a family favorite. You need a pie shell, unbaked, corn syrup, pecans, canned milk or cream, and eggs and vanilla. This pie is really a custard pie at heart. Pumpkin pie made with the recipe on the back of Libby's pumpkin can (NOT the pumpkin pie filling - gross!). Another family favorite is bread pudding. Heat 2 cups milk (part cream) almost to boiling. Remove from heat. Add 1 cup of raisens to the milk to plump while you prepare the rest. Toast 4 slices of day old white bread and butter them. Cut the toast into 1/2 inch squares including the crust. Add 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp of cinnamon, & 1/2 tsp vanilla to the milk and stir to mix. Beat 3 eggs. While continually beating, add the beaten eggs to the milk mixture and add a dash of salt. Place your bread cubes into a buttered 8 or 9 inch casserole, and gently pour the liquid over the bread, making sure all the bread is moistened. Push down to mosten if cubes float. Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 45 minutes, or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean. The pudding will puff up, but will deflate after you remove it from the oven. DO NOT overcook. Serve warm with whipped cream, or heavy cream, or vanilla ice cream.
